L I F T I N G W A T E R is a commentary on the lived relationships between time (“rivers, to time, the lake”), grieving (“lifting, lifting water”) and the sensuous nature of eros and memory (“tangle strands of lightning; silhouettes in carnival”). It also speaks to the reality of time by way of uncovering a non-trivial connection between abstraction or the abstract (“sounding-thought’s flight,” “words to alternate worlds,” “deep categorising virtuals,” “transposed becoming images,” etc.,) and life’s necessary concretion or corporeality – fleeting, limitless in its conceptions, yet not abstract, most obviously in death. The poetic verse reveals that cosmological time (“earth’s burning sun”) entropically creates the conditions for the absence of time (“under sun’s stillness”), thus setting the grounds for a repositioning of sapiens awareness against the over-valued technics of mechanical clock-time (“breathing of machine”) which sets in motion the pacing of the spoken word narrative (counting, on 8-9-10).
